“Gather round kids! It’s a big day around here, and I’m really glad you all showed up today to participate!”

That’s how Coach Kendall, or “COACH K”, kicks off a very special Saturday morning for members of his church youth group—Zach, Blake, Sydney, Anna, and Anna’s guest, Morgan. The purpose of the day, previously unknown to the kids, becomes clear as they notice the starting line with a colorful banner flying overhead bearing the words, RACE DAY!

Their reactions upon seeing the sign range anywhere from, “There’s no place I’d rather be on a Saturday morning!” and “This looks like my kind of day!”to “I’d rather be in bed… it’s Saturday!” and “I don’t mind getting up early… but for this?!?”

Coach K quickly explains that instead of physically running a race, the day is about an even bigger race… the race of life! And the Bible says training to live a life determined to follow Jesus is like running a race where the prize is eternal and heavenly!
